Sharon Hartmann

Specialist Nurse
(she/her)

I’m Sharon, a nurse and accredited specialist in menopause, passionate about improving menopause care within my local community. I qualified as a registered nurse in 1988 and initially worked on a female surgical ward before transitioning to work as a registered children’s nurse.  In the mid 1990’s I relocated to Scotland and decided to move into primary care nursing. Aside from children’s nursing, I was really interested in women’s health and was keen to develop my skills in contraception and sexual health; then known as family planning!

Following a short career break, during which I had my twin daughters and moved back to the South West of England, I commenced work within the local public health team and teenage health strategy programme in 2001.  I had a wonderful 16 years working within the young people’s sexual health sector, however, as my girls grew up, I wanted a change in direction to allow me to deliver a wider range of contraception.  I was lucky to have the opportunity to move back into primary care within a GP practice in Weston-Super-Mare. I qualified with the faculty of sexual and reproductive health and learnt the skill of coil fitting!

Working again within primary care allowed me to quickly recognise an unmet need for people experiencing menopause. I was driven by a mixture of my personal experience facing the impact of menopause symptoms and professional curiosity to explore training in this field of nursing. I commenced the special skills training with the British Menopause Society in October 2017 and became accredited in 2019. This course, alongside vast amounts of personal additional learning, ongoing support from the GP practice and the wider specialist menopause healthcare community, has contributed significantly to the day-to-day menopause care I now provide both within the NHS and private sector.

I aim to offer the same exceptionally high-quality care to the wider local community as I do within the local GP practice I currently work in. I want to offer bespoke holistic care for people who struggle needlessly with menopause symptoms, offering opportunities to consider HRT or alternative evidence-based options alongside lifestyle modifications so that life spent in menopause is fulfilling, positive and a vibrant experience. This is a time for people to feel limitless rather than held back by menopause.

Caitlin Hartmann

Administrator/Social Media Support
(she/her)

Caitlin has joined our team as a Textile Arts graduate and has been working in the Textile Conservation field for the past 6 months as a Studio Assistant. Caitlin has additional experience in hospitality and administration.

Caitlin has the ideal combination with her arts and administrative background to support our small nurse led clinic. She is also an avid reader and truly has a gift for the written word which is a huge help when creating social media posts, proof reading consultation letters and communicating with our menopause community.

She is no stranger to health practise with parents who have spent many years working for the NHS despite being squeamish about blood herself! Caitlin is familiar, understanding and well versed in discussions on the menopause and the impact it can have on someone’s life.

We are pleased to have her onboard as our Administrator and Social Media Support.
